ELECTRICAL MATERIAL TAKEOFF

Material that traces back to the drawing.

Material takeoff is where electrical scope turns into purchase orders. It is also where an unexamined assumption becomes a truckload of the wrong thing.
In Development

From run to material

In VoltDrop, material is derived from the electrical relationships rather than counted independently of them. A feeder run carries its conductors and raceway; a branch circuit carries the wire, raceway, boxes, and devices it serves.

That means a change to the feeder — a breaker revised in an addendum, a route adjusted by the contractor — updates the material that depends on it, instead of leaving two numbers that disagree.

  • Conductors

Derived from the run: size, material, insulation, and length including the pull allowance you set.

  • Raceway

Type and trade size sized against conduit fill, with the fill calculation available to review.

  • Devices and boxes

Counted from the plans and associated with the circuit that feeds them.

  • Equipment

Panels, transformers, disconnects, and switchgear read from the one-line and schedules.

Why provenance matters at buyout

When a quantity is questioned during buyout, the useful answer is a sheet number. VoltDrop keeps that link on the line item, so a material quantity can be checked against the document that produced it rather than re-derived from scratch.

Quantities that could not be confirmed stay marked as open. A takeoff that is honest about its own uncertainty is more useful than one that is uniformly confident and occasionally wrong.
